The Cairns-based facilities of Hawker Pacific have become the first in Australia to be granted an approval under new air safety regulations.
Hawker Pacific Airline Support Services now has approval to operate under the new CASA maintenance regulations introduced in June 2011.
These regulations cover the maintenance of regular public transport aircraft and aeronautical products.
Hawker Pacific is the first of an expected 250 maintenance organisations that will move across to operate under the new CASA Part 145 regulations between now and June 2013 and this approval complements the European, EASA145 airworthiness approval that has been held by the company for some years.
CASA’s Director of Aviation Safety, John McCormick, presented the CEO of Hawker Pacific, Alan Smith with their new Civil Aviation Safety Regulations Part 145 approval certificate, at the Hawker Cairns facility on Wednesday 24 August 2011.
The Hawker Pacific Vice President of Quality and Systems Jim Pilkington, also present said, “The awarding of this Part 145 certificate is the culmination of a significant amount of effort and resources involving our Quality and Safety personnel and the entire Cairns team”.
"We are very pleased to be the first organisation to be issued with a CASA Part 145 approval. However, the work is just beginning as we now implement these new and revised processes and procedures and work for continual improvement for compliance with CASA's new rule suite."
"The new CASA rule suite is safety based and our approach has been to integrate other important elements such as Quality, Aviation Security, OH&S and Environment into our existing Safety Management System. This brings benefits in efficiencies but most importantly, promotes a healthy and compliant culture", he said.
